“The cat appeared to be lifeless and the owner buried him. Five days later, the cat showed up in a neighbors yard, alive! He had dug himself out of the grave and slowly made his way back home, albeit in weak, dehydrated and in need of medical attention.”
Since Bart suffered a wound to his face, including a broken jaw and ruined eye, his owner was unable to pay for veterinary treatment. Bart was turned over to the Humane Society, who is now caring for his injuries.
Bart has ways to go before being released back to his owner. He is in too much pain to eat and underwent surgery today to wire his jaw, repair his palette and insert a temporary feeding tube. Unfortunately, Bart had to have his damaged eye removed.
The Humane Society of Tampa Bay issued a statement late Tuesday following his surgery
“Bart The Miracle Cat has successful surgery! He was a brave boy and is now resting comfortably. He is spending the night with our good friends at Tampa Bay Veterinary Emergency Service so he can be monitored. He will return to us in the morning and need a week or so to recover before going back home!”
Thank you, HSTB, for taking such care of this beautiful boy, who is undoubtedly a few “lives” lighter after his ordeal.
