An Oregon teen is facing animal cruelty charges after abandoning 27 guinea pigs in a draining ditch, Fox13 News in Salt Lake City reported November 7.
After the 13 were rescued, a friend of the employee who works at the animal hospital made a return visit to the dumping site, and found several more, many of them dead.
The hospital is seeking donations to help cover the cost of their care and to spay the females. Several of the guinea pigs are believed pregnant. Southwest Animal Hospital is currently housing 16 of the guinea pigs, and more are being cared for by friends of the employees who work there.
Diaz is facing charges of animal neglect and animal abandonment. The guinea pigs will be placed up for adoption once they’re cleared as healthy by the Southwest veterinarian.
