A small miracle has come out of the tragedy that took the life of Rosella Mitchell and her 6-month-old son Dylan, who were found dead inside a burned Columbus, Georgia home earlier this week. Fox Carolina reported the story September 12.
Rosella had a pit bull named Ella, who had given birth to eleven little puppies just hours before the fire. Although Ella died of smoke inhalation, her final act of bravery saved nine of the eleven pups.
While Ella could have saved herself by running away, this sweet mama dog covered her puppies with her body, and this simple act of love saved them.
Melissa Britt and Alison Cripe are a few of the foster families taking care of the pups through Animal Ark Rescue. These ladies will raise the pups until they’re ready to be adopted. Mitchell’s family plan to keep at least one of the puppies in memory of Ella.
In an interview with WTVM, Melissa stated
“I think they’re little miracles, and it shows the depth of a mother’s love. I mean the mother could have run away and she didn’t. She saved her babies.”
Family members have set up a fund through Bank of America called “A Rose for Dylan” to help raise funeral expenses.
