Atlanta area police are examining the bones brought home on Tuesday by a family dog in a northwest Atlanta neighborhood. CBS46 Atlanta reported the story October 29, and a video is also available at the link.
Police responded to a heavily populated area home on Jones Street in the English Avenue neighborhood around 7:30 a.m. early Tuesday morning after a man told police his dog showed up chewing on what appeared to be a human bone.
A Fulton County Medical Examiner Office investigator was called in and determined the dog indeed had a human bone. According to Atlanta Police Department Homicide Commander Lt. Charles Hampton, the medical examiner stated the bone was from the lower extremity.
Michael Page, whose boxer brought home the bone, says he’s not surprised at the discovery. Page says he lives in a high-crime neighborhood that’s been forgotten.
Cadaver dogs were brought in to search for the remains, and at about 3:45 p.m., the dogs located more remains that are believed to belong to the same person. It’s believed the remains may have been there for a long time. The bones were so badly decomposed that Hampton told news media
“What we’ll do is check our missing person report, to see if we have anyone missing. We’re going to need more information as far as if it’s a male or female.”
