A Louisiana dog was rescued from certain death and rushed across at least six parishes for help, Fox Carolina News reported October 21.
Deana stated to news media
“How he is still alive at this point is pretty much a miracle. He was extremely close to death. If they’re not pulled by rescues they’re euthanized.”
Dr. Christine Whatley describes Alex as weak and close to death, suffering from severe neglect and starvation when brought into the clinic. He was starved to the point of eating rocks and twigs.
The rescue learned of his food desperation when they became over zealous on feeding him, and his stomach bloated and flipped. Emergency surgery saved his life.
Now Alex has become a celebrity in the area, with people speaking to him wherever he goes. SAR posted an update on their Facebook page.
“Alex isn’t sure what all the fuss is about, but he’s enjoying the attention he’s getting when he’s out for a walk. He’s become a little bit of a local celebrity! People say hello to him when he goes out for a walk, honk their horns & give him a thumbs up! All the positive energy coming his way can only be helpful, right? He’s a happy boy today, appreciative for everyone that is supporting him! Thank you!!
Alex is now on a special prescription diet. He’s currently around 43 pounds and needs to slowly gain weight before going to a forever home. Meanwhile, Deanna and her staff will make sure he finds a family who will love and care for him.
