Sometimes a cat rescue has to do things a bit out of the ordinary, especially when a life is at stake. Thus comes the story of Susan Schreck, founder of Saving Southern Kitties.
Susan is well known in the upstate South Carolina area, where she has saved countless cats who would otherwise have been killed in North and South Carolina shelters. So when the call went out that a special life needed saving, Susan stepped up to rescue a pot-bellied pig at a local shelter.
“It’s not every day you can say you had a hand in saving a pot bellied pig from death row. I’ll check that one off the bucket list!”
Thankfully, Susan didn’t have to find a spot in her home for the pig to reside until a home was found. The rescued cats who reside there would have been VERY confused with such a unique new roommate.
Susan had a friend with a farm waiting for the rescued pig, she was just a go-between because this was a “rescue only” situation. People think little piggies are cute when they’re young, unfortunately, many are turned over to local shelters once they pass the cute and cuddly stage.
It’s nice to know that a cat rescue like Saving Southern Kitties could go out of their way to save a life, even if it wasn’t the life of a homeless cat.
Please note the pig in the photo isn’t the pig who was rescued, but only an example of a pot-bellied pig.
