Cooper was picked up by Sarah Bruce with Precious Furbaby Rescue at around 3 p.m. on March 8th from the Rowan County Animal Shelter. After noticing a lot of blood in the carrier, Sarah asked an employee at the front desk whether she knew what had caused Cooper’s injury. That employee admitted Cooper got loose in the cat room while giving his rabies vaccine and being microchipped and was fighting them.
Church admitted he isn’t clear on what happened to Cooper and won’t rule out firing the employee pending the results of the investigation. Meanwhile, Cooper is being cared for by Debbie Orbison until he receives additional surgery and is healthy enough for adoption. In an interview with Salisbury Post, Debbie stated
“I can’t say what happened, but when he went back to get microchipped he was fine. He came back with a fractured jaw.”
An update Thursday night on Facebook: Saving Cooper reported Cooper is able to eat. He has been referred to Carolinas Animal Hospital and Dental in Charlotte which Dr. Vaughn set up and will be taking there Friday morning where he’ll be examined by the specialist and x-rays taken to determine exactly what needs to be done. The best source for updates is Cooper’s Facebook page listed above.
