A suspect is sought after two cats up for adoption at a Pennsylvania PetSmart were injured after a liquid believed to be bleach was thrown on them, WABC7 News reported April 3.
PA Homepage reported that on March 30 Shyla had bleach thrown on her. Then on Wednesday night, Shyla was again injured when a person threw bleach on her, as well as on Rossi. Both cats suffered burns and their eyes were nearly swollen shut after the attack.
Both cats were up for adoption out of Griffin Pond Animal Shelter and were inside a cage at the time at the time of the attacks. Human Society officers are investigating the attacks.
Shyla and Rossi were taken to Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center in South Abington Township, and are expected to recover from their injuries.
Humane Society officer Sandy Scala stated in an interview with WABC7 News
“I want to find out who did this, we all do, this is just absurd. I mean, there are some sick twisted individuals out there and that’s putting it nicely and I hope karma really does come around and nail them.”
Shyla and Rossi suffered burns, and their eyes were nearly swollen shut. Shyla also has chemical burns on her face and the side of her neck.
Humane officers want anyone with information about what happened to come forward. Police are looking for a male suspect with a blue baseball cap that they say was “antagonizing the cat” Wednesday night.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Dickson City Police. As a precaution, cats will now be displayed for adoption in a glass room behind a locked door.
NOTE: One reference states the attack occurred first on Monday, then again on Wednesday. Another reference insinuates there was only one attack on one night. This article will be updated as more information becomes available.
