A South Carolina couple is in trouble with the law after forcing their teen daughter to live in the woods for eating a Pop Tart without their permission, Fox Carolina News reported July 4.
The girl was found by authorities on Friday after having to endure the severe storms that came through the Sumter area Thursday night. Investigators also learned that during June the child wasn’t allowed to enter her home between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
According to a July 6 report by WKBN News, James Driggers, 33, and Cheryl Driggers, 36, of the Dalzell community were charged with child neglect. They’re currently in custody at the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
The 14-year-old is in the custody of the South Carolina Department of Social Services. Four of her siblings were placed with their grandparents.
