December 2, 2014

According to a December 1 report by MLive News, two Jackson, Michigan police officers are under investigation for shooting a family dog.

Jackson Police Lt. Christopher Simpson reported the fatal shooting involved a 4-year-old pit bull in the 500 block of South Blackstone Street as officers with the Jackson Police Department attempted to execute a petition signed by a judge.

Two Jackson police officers were inside an apartment around 4:30 p.m. last Friday looking for a person of interest when officers were approached by an aggressive dog. One of the officers fired his weapon, killing the dog.

Simpson stated an internal investigation is being conducted to learn why the officers were inside the apartment, how they got into the apartment, and what led up to the dog “attacking.”

The officers involved will remain on duty during the investigation

Simpson told MLive News

“We are sympathetic towards that loss of their family.”
