Update June 13. Maggs has died. RIP girl. Click here for a statement from the rescue who saved her.
Beautiful Maggs is a fighter who has suffered for more than a week with unimaginable pain. The flies came and laid their eggs in her wounds and she was powerless to stop them. She was finally found near death by animal control,
A Shelter Friend, a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization working with county animal shelters of southeastern North Carolina, rescue groups and like-minded individuals, to facilitate adoptions and provide support for rescue efforts was contacted about Maggs.
The vet at Elizabethtown Veterinary Hospital isn’t an emergency vet but worked after hours until midnight in an attempt to save Maggs from death. If she had been taken to the local shelter, she’d have been euthanized. Being the fighter she is, A Shelter Friend is doing their best to save her.
A Shelter Friend posted on their Facebook wall on Monday
“This morning she is hanging on and we again must ask for help, for a dog that should have died but refused to give up. A dog cruelly shot Left to die, BUT is fighting to Live !
Please help Maggs The county Kill shelter would have euthanized this poor girl after such a will to live, that would have been the final betrayal by humans.
Donations for her care can be done on ourwww.ashelterfriend.org or by calling the vet 910-862-3000″
Maggs has undergone her first surgery and her leg was amputated; however, the infection has spread to the rest of her body. She has required a blood transfusion but she did not respond to it and needs another one. A drain has been placed to help remove the infection from her body. She is also getting intravenous antibiotics. She will need another surgery when she is more stable to remove the rest of the infection.
Gabe to the Rescue, dedicated to a Military Working Dog whose legacy lives on following his death on February 13, 2013, is also helping raise funds to help cover Maggs’ veterinary expenses. They’re giving the proceeds for Gabe’s children books to A Shelter Friend for all sales through Sunday.
“We are helping A Shelter Friend by giving the proceeds of Gabe’s children’s book for this entire week through Sunday. 3 books for $20 or 7 for $40. This includes shipping This baby needs us more than ever. PAYPAL IS CSHUCK99@YAHOO.COM and leave your mailing address in remarks to mail books.”
Please keep Maggs in your thoughts this week, as she struggles against the odds to survive a potentially fatal injury. She’s not out of the woods by any means, but this girl has a strong spirit and a dogs will to live can many times overcome incredible odds.
