She was last seen on Memorial Day by neighbors, then Caitlyn turned up early Wednesday morning on a person’s doorstep, with electrical tape tightly wound around her muzzle.
In an interview with News 2, Charleston Animal Society Senior Director of Veterinary Care, Dr. Lucy Fuller, DVM, stated
“Caitlyn is in a lot of pain, her condition is critical, and her prognosis is guarded. A large part of her tongue may need to be removed surgically if the tissue dies from the lack of blood flow. She may be severely disfigured, or the large amount of dead tissue may cause life-threatening complications.”
Although Caitlin is in critical condition from the tape, which officials believe was on her for 36-48 hours, Facebook: Charleston Animal Society posted an update Thursday afternoon
“UPDATE on Caitlyn Dog found with muzzle taped shut! She’s doing well given her condition and will be transferred to a a specialty care facility tomorrow. Investigation is ongoing #adoptatcas # animalcruelty To help the Animal Society save Caitlyn and others like her, please give to Toby’s Fund for medical care by clicking here.”
Aldwin Roman, Charleston Animal Society Director of Anti-Cruelty & Outreach, calls this the most malicious case of animal abuse he’s seen in his career.
Caitlin was left to fend for herself, without a way to eat or drink and at risk of losing her tongue. The person who did this needs to be held responsible.
If convicted of ill-treatment of an animal, this person faces up to five years in prison and a $5,000 fine.
This is not the type of abuse that remains a secret. Someone out there has most likely bragged about this cruel act.
Please share Caitlin, with the hope whoever did this is brought to justice.
