Several students from two upstate high schools are in trouble after a Friday night brawl, WSPA7 reported February 3.
Officials were able to break up the fight, but it soon spilled into the parking lot outside. The police were called in from Greenwood County, the S.C. Highway Patrol and Abbeville County.
School officials released a statement to the news media on Monday stating
“Administrators have responded according to guidelines set forth in our Student Code of Conduct and our Student Athletes’ Handbook,” it reads. “Consequences are harsh for fighting because we can’t and won’t tolerate that type of behavior.”
Now information available on the 10 p.m. broadcast by Fox Carolina News saying there were no racial slurs made against Ware Shoals by students from Tamassee-Salem. This new development leaves a lot of unanswered questions as to what angered students from either side into the fight.
The investigation is ongoing, and more charges may be filed. A video of the fight can be viewed by clicking here.
A statement is expected sometime Tuesday after state school officials and the state discuss what punishment needs to be given to those involved.
