Tent City in Greenville was transformed into a Super Bowl XLVIII party for its residents, Fox Carolina reported February 3.
Most of the residents are either day laborers or out of work. Sunday was a special day for many when they returned home to rind a 20-inch TV, donated wings and celery from Wing Zone and chips and cookies. Being able to watch the gave was a feat, considering Tent City doesn’t have electricity.
Kenneth, who lives in Tent City, spoke with Fox Carolina
“We were wondering where we were going to watch the game. We don’t really like to go to town, watch the game, so that was a blessing.”
The wings were heated up on coals at the base of a trash can fire. This was a neighborhood party, where those who love football came together to watch the game and experience a bit of normalcy to their unusual existence during hard times.
Way to go Fox Carolina, you are truly serving your community. The upstate appreciates your presence, and your willingness to cover stories other new stations won’t touch.
